Good: Spacefunmars: Marry/Fuck/Kill – Week of February 13th-February 19th
Before smart phones and twitter people actually had to interact with each other during fire drills, waiting for the bus, or any other activity that required us to step away from our computers. Spacefunmars brings the excitement of those (often inappropriate) games to the internet in the debut of our new favorite feature.
Better: Demitri: The Screaming Eagle of Soul Moved Me
Follow along with Demetri on his journey of discovery. What begins as a tale of being moved by a man’s story and the music he creates gradually brings it back to basketball with a few ell placed Jeremy Lin parallels. An interesting read in which Demetri does a great job of projecting how he feels into his writing.
Best: Spacefunmars: A Heat/Thunder Finals Would Provide a Rare Treat for NBA Fans
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! In a week where Spacefunmars contributed to every written article, with the exception of the aforementioned “better” piece, this was my favorite. For one reason, he actually did research for the article which is relatively rare for us (outside of the great work by Charty McGraph), In addition to offering an interesting perspective on the potential finals match up, it also caused a good amount of discourse about historical match ups and positional importance.
The Good: Noam Schiller: How Brandon Jennings Killed My Escapist Heaven, Or, Why I Hate Him
This is a powerful article. The basketball blogging community is really amazing. It seems like at least every week somebody will write something that makes you step back and say, “whoa.” This was one of those. Mr. Schiller illustrates how much the NBA and its players mean to those of us that have used them as our escape from life. A definitive must read.
The Bad: Bill Simmons wrote something that didn’t make my eyes bleed this week, so to celebrate, I am not doing a “bad” article. Instead, another good one.
The Other Good: Emile Avanessian: Kyrie Irving is Killing
I GO HARD NOW friend Emile breaks down Kyrie Irving’s latest fourth quarter heroics in a great article that perfectly illustrated Kyrie’s dominance. As a Cleveland fan, I’m so excited by the idea that this kid will get better despite playing like a wily veteran at the age of nineteen. In the midst of a storm of (not undeserved) Linsanity and Rubio hype, the fact that Kyrie is doing something truly special should not be overlooked.
DINOSAURS!!!! The IGHN ALL STAR BONANZA Dinosaur Draft
This is the most IGHN-y thing we’ve done in a while. Listen to Mike, Angelo, and I argue about which dinosaurs we think would have an impact in a world where dinosaurs are finally allowed to join the NBA. Yes, we did a podcast that appeals to four year olds and creationists. Note: don’t actually let your four year old listen to this, as we all have potty mouths.
