Rhyme Recap – The Thunder and The Heat Finals Preview

11 Jun

In an attempt to immortalize what will surely be a showdown for the ages, I will be writing about the Finals series between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat in verse.

Now settles the dust of the brawl in the East
And out comes a wild LeBron James-led beast
Who eyes the horizon and the Thunder out West…
There can be only one called Basketball’s Best

Gone are the Pacers, the Celtics and Knicks
Dispatched by the Heat with the nastiest tricks
Like dunks and passes and forty-point-nights
The Heat shine brightest under pressure and lights

But we all hear the noise of the coming Thunder
Whose rise to greatness leaves us all to wonder
That sprightly young team barely out of the nest
More physical on most nights than Old Man Artest

They’ve rid the playoffs of those Botox’d Spurs
And made the Mavs and Lakers have-beens and weres
We say they’re too young, and that they play too pretty
But of two teams left, one’s Oklahoma City

Fear their youth, their hustle and Harden’s great beard
Durantula’s daggers, and playing sans fear
And Westbrook’s lightning passes and shots
And Serge Ibaka’s “how’d he do that?!” blocks

The spirited, the hungry, the small-town Thunder
Rise up against James’ championship hunger
The critics and cameras all say the same thing
“Will The King have to wait one more year for his ring?”

LeBron’s lit a fire in himself and the Heat
And Bosh’s return will help them compete
For titles and rings, those things that they’re after
And finally, to raise a banner to the rafters

Game 1 of the Finals is here, it’s upon us
The two teams lace up in want of success
The Thunder are wonders at home in the playoffs
But the Heat hope to catch them slow from their layoff

Miami’s plan’s been to win with their stars
While OKC has a deeper bench by far
To Oklahoma we head, toward a series, a battle
(which will probably piss off Sonics fans in Seattle)

LeBron must put in his teammates his trust
Against a Thunder team that’s right there on the cusp
Of greatness and fame, the timeless sports story
Of winning it all and living on with glory
